As a nonprofit that helps victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking, our mission is rooted in providing free, nonsectarian, and trauma-informed services and education to communities throughout Alabama.

Whether they are struggling financially, dealing with substance abuse, escaping a domestic violence situation, or simply needing a place to stay for the night, our doors are open. During their stay, women and children have access to food, clothing, toiletries, showers, laundry facilities, counseling, medical care, spiritual guidance, and more at no cost to them. Our guests are allowed to stay as long as they need.

Our LIFT Housing Program provides low-cost, income-based, short-term, case-managed, scattered-site emergency shelter (apartment style) housing to literally homeless families unable to reside in a traditional shelter setting. In addition, we provide supportive services to help prepare families to move towards permanent affordable housing with the goal of achieving permanent housing by program’s end.

First Stop’s Day Center plays a pivotal role in supporting the homeless community by offering a welcoming environment during daytime hours when many shelters are closed. Open Monday through Friday, our center provides essential services such as two daily meals, access to showers and laundry services, distribution of hygiene items, and partner services.

We provide compassionate outreach and housing opportunities for individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

Our goal is to continue working to reduce the need for subsidized housing by partnering with families who need help and the community who can help them.

Emergency Financial Assistance is supported by HAP member Churches and exists to help families in crisis with a short-term solution to their financial insecurity.

Community Action Partnership Huntsville/Madison & Limestone Counties, Inc. (CAPHMLC) is a certified Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Housing Counseling agency that helps families achieve numerous housing outcomes by providing the following services: Financial Literacy Education, Credit Counseling, Budget Counseling, First-Time Homebuyers Education, Delinquent Mortgage/Foreclosure Counseling, Emergency Rental Assistance, Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing.

ShowerUp Huntsville launched with a permanent community outreach in the spring of 2020 to serve those who are experiencing homelessness. Since then, ShowerUp has provided thousands of showers, hygiene supplies, survival gear, socks, and more.
