Madison County Reads is a community program sponsored by the Huntsville-Madison Public Library that encourages everyone in the county to read the same book or the works of a single author. The library has been hosting this month-long program every spring since 2002.
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline is the focus of this year's Madison County Reads. To enhance the reading experience, the library will be offering various speaker events, 80s film screenings, crafts, science clubs, story times, and special events. There will be opportunties at all the branches across the county, and all of these will relate to references and themes from Ready Player One.
This year, we also have a systemwide Scavenger Hunt running the entire month of March. We invite you to read and play along with your library.

About the Book: In Ready Player One, much of the world is comprised of massive corporations and trailer park slums. Set in the year 2044, most day to day activities are done in a virtual reality world dubbed Oasis, which people use for work and school as well as leisure. This world was mainly created by a brilliant and eccentric programmer named James Halliday who was obsessed with 1980’s video games and pop culture.
When Halliday dies, he issues forth a challenge for control of his company and stewardship of Oasis: find the easter eggs he has hidden within his game.
Millions of people devote their lives to solve the riddle, one of whom is young Wade Watts. In his quest to discover these clues and solve the hunt he will meet several others on the same quest, some with much more sinister designs for the future of Oasis…
