Required summer reading lists of Huntsville City and surrounding schools for the 2017-2018 school year. Schools include: Huntsville City, Madison City, Madison County, etc. *Additional school lists not already included will be added when available.*

Sparkman 9th

All Students should read To Kill a Mockingbird, and prepare a summer reading journal . There is a project, quiz, essay, and test on all of the summer reading material.  PreAP students have a second reading assignment in choosing one of the following titles:

Sparkman Pre-AP English 10

Students are required to read the following two novels. Students must be prepared to test on both on the first day of class.

*Students may also read Anthem or 1984 AND The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Rocket Boys: A Memoir, Red Scarf Girl, or a personal choice of a memoir and complete an extra credit project due on the first day of class. Sparkman English 11

Students will choose one of the following novels over the summer, choose one of the projects (details can be found under the "school projects" tab) to complete and turn in on the first day, and write a brief paragraph about what grade they think they deserve for the project and why. Students must read two nonfiction books over the summer. No assignment is required, but students should be prepared to delve deeper into the text during the first two weeks of school.
