Using the Library's Wireless Network: Troubleshooting

Instructions for using the library's wi-fi network, tips for troubleshooting, and frequently asked questions.

Troubleshooting Tips

Problem: It's asking me for a password to get onto the wifi.

Troubleshooting Tip: Make sure you are connected to LibraryNet or LibraryNet2 NOT LibraryLaptop.

Problem: My device can't find or connect to "LibraryNet."

Troubleshooting Tips: There could be several possibilities:

  • Have you turned on your wireless option? Sometimes it is toggled off, and it isn't obvious that it is turned off.
  • Have you set your device to a "static IP" address? Under your TCP/IP settings, you must "Obtain an IP Address automatically" selected. If you have a specific IP address set in that dialog box, you will not be able to connect to LibraryNet.
  • Is your wireless option functioning properly? The problem may be as simple as a broken wireless card.

Other Tips

Still having problems? Try some of these options:

  • Turn your wifi option off and on.
  • Reboot your computer.
  • How strong is your signal? If it is less than two bars, try moving to another part of the library or try LibraryNet2.
  • Clear the cache on your browser and reboot.
  • Try using a different Internet browser. Internet Explorer tends to have more issues. So, try Google Chrome, Safari, or Mozilla, for example.
  • Disconnect to LibraryNet and reconnect.
  • Try a website you normally do not visit.
