What is vegetarianism? A vegetarian is a person who does not eat meat, poultry, or fish. Many people become vegetarian instantly. They totally give up meat, fish, and poultry overnight. Others make the change gradually. Just remember to do what works best for you.

What is veganism? Vegans are vegetarians who abstain from eating or using all animal products, including milk, cheese, other dairy items, eggs, honey, wool, silk, or leather. Among the many reasons for being a vegetarian are health, environmental, and ethical concerns; dislike of meat; non-violent beliefs; compassion for animals; and economics.

The Vegetarian Resource Group (VRG) is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public on vegetarianism and veganism and the interrelated issues of health, nutrition, ecology, ethics, and world hunger. Our health professionals, activists, and educators work with businesses and individuals to bring about healthy changes in your school, workplace, and community. Registered dietitians and physicians aid in the development of nutrition related publications and answer member or media questions about the vegetarian and vegan diet. The Vegetarian Resource Group is a non-profit organization. Financial support comes primarily from memberships, contributions, and book sales.

 

VegWeb is a free site that houses an extensive collection of user-created recipes, rated so you can find the best vegan recipes for any set of ingredients or just about any dish you could think of making, with plenty of pictures. VegWeb is likely the most useful vegan cooking site in existence, with many baking/desert recipes.
